The Long And Painful History Of Circumcision

The history of things that have been done to the penis has been long and very frustrating to many men. This is shown as proof positive when you look at circumcision.

This is the act of clipping the foreskin of the penis and then folding it back, which exposes the head. Now there was a time when only those of the Jewish faith were performing this procedure on their male newborns, but in the late 1950's this became common practice for most of the western world.

More than ninety percent of the world was circumcising their newborn male children by the 1990's and there was good medical reason as such.

However, there is a new school of thought that says this is nothing more than mutilation that will lead to a whole host of health problems in men. None of this has been proven mind you, but people are willing to believe most of what they read when it comes to the penis.

Circumcision has actually been around since the very early times. There are records that show that circumcision was performed as long as one hundred and twenty-five thousand years ago on the African continent. These primitive cultures normally performed circumcision as part of a religious ceremony. Most often you will find that it was a right of passage among young men who were moving into adulthood.

The main problem is that many of them died as a result of infection or mere shock from having their penis knifed with a sharpened stone. However, the practice carried over through the years and it is even mentioned in the bible. So the practice was continued throughout the centuries and is still considered to be a medically based procedure.

Most of the circumcisions are performed when the child is only days or hours old. This is due to the fact that professionals believe that a newborn has no concept of pain and therefore should have the procedure on the most sensitive part of the body at that point. There are many who believe this to be wrong and will still fight against such things even when the medical backing is provided.

Circumcision is normally performed in the hospital in the hours following birth. The medical community has shown that there are many reasons why circumcision should be performed. Most of these reasons stem from health complications. As many understand, the uncircumcised penis has a covering over the head.

This covering can allow dirt and such to build up. When that occurs the person is prone to disease and infection of the penis. Many times these infections are let go which then leads to the surgical methods of penile correction or even amputation. With that in mind, there is little to block a person from having this performed.

However, new studies have shown that many of the men in the world would much rather have their foreskin as compared to the other method. Sexual pleasure is said to be much higher in those that are uncut, leading to the school of thought that the restoration of the foreskin should be a universally accepted procedure or practice.
